The 14th OVI participated in a living history event (known as Civil War Days) at Providence Metropark in Grand Rapids Ohio the weekend of July 30 - August 1st. A lantern tour was conducted by the members of the 14th OVI (and a few from the 3rd Arkansas) on Saturday evening. More than 150 spectators paid $3.00 each to enjoy a total of eight stops on the tour. The lantern tour was enjoyed by spectators and reenactors alike. Once again, I would like to thank Cap'n Bob for his hard work and planning!
Friday night greeted us with a driving rain that lasted most of the night, thank goodness we were able to stay dry as we slept on the canal boat. The boat was fairly comfortable except for the loud rumbling (snoring) coming from a particular private!
Two skirmishes on Saturday and one on Sunday morning helped give the NCO's some tactical battle experience. The drill on Saturday also gave some of our younger members an opportunity to handle a rifle in a drill atmosphere.
