The 3rd Arkansas battled at Jackson, MI the weekend of August 27 - 29 in wet conditions. Friday nights rain did nothing to diminish Saturdays humidity for the afternoon battle that saw the Rebs hold on to the works despite several aggressive attacks by the Federal infantry. The battle was hard fought as the 3rd went forward as skirmishers and eventually redeployed into the works. Saturday night brought a driving rain for over 8 hours that flooded the works and drove off many soldiers. The rain finally stopped around 9 am and things began to dry up a bit. The Sunday afternoon battle did not go well for the Confederate Army and the 3rd Arkansas.  The Union Army attacked in force on the Confederate left flank and drove the Rebs from the works. The 3rd Arkansas took extremely heavy losses but Lt. Valentine managed to save the colors.
