Champions Of Freedom
One of the things that helps the 14th OVI/ 3rd Arkansas portray an accurate image of the Civil War is its citizen group. The Champions of Freedom shows other facets of life during the nineteenth century creating a better representation of what people in this country went through during this time period. Members of the Champions of Freedom recreate the social upheaval created when entire communities lost a generation of young men to the war. With the citizen group, we are able to explore issues such as the changing gender roles, political change and basic economics of the nineteenth century, all important issues to understand when looking at any time period.
Many of the members of the Champions of Freedom have family members participating in the military faction; however other members simply wish to share a special talent or area of expertise that does not necessarily fit into the life of a campaigning soldier.  The Champions of Freedom prides itself in recreating an accurate portrayal of life during the Civil War and work hard to create believable historical personas based on historical research. Members of the Citizens include children, ladies, gentlemen and families who have the common goal of authentically recreating the Civil War.
Members of the Champions of Freedom are always looking to help new members create a persona and we have many basic items to loan to help interested parties get started. Many members camp in civilian camps at events, while others come out during the day for the activities. Members also enjoy the camaraderie of socializing with other like minded individuals who are always willing to share knowledge and educate the public.

Members of the Champions of Freedom are always looking to help new members get started.

Help Teach The Next Generation About Our Past

The Champions of Freedom participate in a wide variety of events that correspond with the military’s role. Since the military portrays both sides of the war, citizens portray Northern and Southern women throughout the year. Citizens participate in recreating towns as well as portraying refugees displaced by the war. Citizens teach through living history presentations, first person presentations, lantern tour stops as well as by living within the time period at events. No matter where your interests in the Civil War lie, the Champions of Freedom can help you develop a persona and enjoy Civil War Reenacting as a hobby.
